Prepared Essay

NOTE: All work MUST be original and created by the competitor(s) himself. By submitting your work you are agreeing that MIST has the right to return or keep all work/submissions/entries.

All submissions must be in PDF format. If you do not have a PDF converter, you can convert your word document to PDF for free using one of the following links:

Any submissions which are not in PDF format will be automatically disqualified. This is a very popular competition and judges must have ample time to read and fill out ballots before the tournament. Hence, absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS will be allowed. In addition, students who turn in their submissions late or do not email PDF documents will be subject to points lost from their score as well as their team score.

Competitors shall write about any topic that reflects on this year’s theme. Some sample prompts competitors can use are, but not limited to, the following:

  • “ If someone wants to know what position he enjoys in the eyes of God he only has to look at what place he gives to God [in his heart and his life].” – Hakim
  • “None of you will truly believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself.” –Bukhari
  • “Despair is a dangerous thing, because once people lose hope, they can resort to extreme measures.” – Karen Armstrong
  • “Man is created to be God’s deputy on earth and it is important to realize the obligation to rid ourselves of all illusions and to make our lives a preparation for the next life.” – Yusuf Islam
  • “The scholar does not consider gold and jade to be precious treasures, but loyalty and good faith.” – Confucius
  • “The highest spiritual quality, the noblest property of mind a man can have, is this of loyalty a man with no loyalty in him, with no sense of love or reverence or devotion due to …something outside and above his poor daily life, with its pains and pleasures, profits and losses, is as evil a case as man can be.” – Algernon Charles Swinburn
